Changing and resetting passwords

Changing, resetting, and recovering passwords—for yourself or your users—and what to do when it is the username you have forgotten.

How do I change my password?

Changing your password requires the password you use now. If you do not have it, reset it instead—see the next question.

  1. Select your name at the bottom of the side menu, then select Change password in the menu that opens. (The Change Password button on your profile goes to the same page.)
  2. Enter your current password under Old Password, then your new password under New Password and again under Verify New Password.
  3. Select Save. You are returned to your profile.

Your new password must be at least 12 characters long and contain at least one letter and one number. Passwords are case sensitive.

How do I reset a forgotten password?

You can reset it yourself from the login page—no Administrator needed.

  1. On the login page, select Reset Password, beside the Password label.
  2. Under Email, enter the email address on your InOutBoard account.
  3. Select Reset Password. The page shows the same Check Your Email panel whether or not the address is on an account, so it cannot be used to find out which addresses have one. If it is, InOutBoard sends a Password Reset email containing your username and a Reset password button; an address shared by more than one user gets one email per account.
  4. Select Reset password in the email. On the Reset Your Password page, enter your New Password, repeat it under Confirm Password, and select Save New Password.
  5. Log in with your new password.

The link works once and expires 24 hours after the email is sent. Only one reset email goes out per account every five minutes, so a second request straight away sends nothing new: use the email you already have. A request after that retires the link in any earlier email, and so does changing your password, so always open the most recent one. If your link has expired or has already been used, start again at Reset Password on the login page to get a new one.

The email is queued for delivery, so give it a few minutes. If it does not turn up, check your Junk Email folder and spam filters, and add mail from inoutboard.com to your Safe Senders list. Still stuck? Your InOutBoard Administrator can send you a reset link, or you can contact our support team.

How do I reset someone else's password?

Only an Administrator can send another user a password reset link. It emails them a link—it does not set a password for them, and it does not lock them out of the one they have.

  1. Select Settings in the side menu, then select Users.
  2. Find the person—enter a Name under Find Users and select Search, or page through the list, which shows 25 users to a page.
  3. At the end of their row, under Reset / Welcome, select the padlock button labeled Reset Password. The envelope beside it is Send Welcome Email, which sends the account-verification message instead.
  4. Check the name in the Reset Password window, then select Reset password.

The user receives a Password Reset email with their username and a Reset password button, which opens the Reset Your Password page where they set a new password and select Save New Password. That link works once and expires 24 hours after it is sent; you can send another at any time. If they cannot find the email, have them check their Junk Email folder and spam filters.

I forgot my username.

You sign in with a Username, not an email address, although many organizations make the two the same. There is no "forgot username" link, but there are two ways to get it back:

  • Request a password reset. On the sign-in page select Reset Password, enter the email address on your account, and select Reset Password. The email that arrives shows your Company and your Username above the reset button. You can use the link to set a new password, or ignore it if you only needed the username; it expires after one day.
  • Ask an Administrator. Your username is on your user record under Settings → Users. It is not shown on your own profile.

On a computer or phone you have signed in from before, the sign-in page fills in the last username used.
